Despite Samsung’s TV dominance, Tizen OS trails Roku, Fire TV, and Google TV

Samsung has been the world's number one TV brand for 20 consecutive years. Given that dominance, you might expect Tizen OS, the operating system the company's smart TVs use, to lead the streaming platform market. Surprisingly, it doesn't — not even close.

The Streamable has published an analysis of smart TV and streaming device operating system market share in the US. According to the report, Samsung's Tizen OS holds an 8% share, placing it fourth. Roku ranks first, followed by Amazon Fire TV and Google TV.

Samsung's relatively low ranking is likely because it doesn't sell dedicated streaming devices, which may sell in significantly higher numbers than TVs, and most run Roku OS, Amazon Fire OS, or Android TV/Google TV.

If the comparison were limited to smart TVs alone, however, Samsung's Tizen OS could very well come out on top. Speaking of Samsung TVs, here's a neat trick that ensures you never miss your favorite cable TV shows again.
